Nausea is something most people are familiar with and each one of us has experienced it at least once. It is never a pleasant experience and can arise in a variety of situations, including pregnancy and travel. Anti-nausea medications are commonly used to help relieve it. Sometimes, these medications may have negative effects of their own. There are several home remedies that help you get rid of nausea without using pharmaceutical medication.
- Ginger
A popular and natural remedy to treat nausea. It is believed that compound in ginger works the same way in which an anti-nausea medication would work.
- Peppermint
Second to ginger is peppermint, it too has a calming effect on the lining of the stomach. There are many brands of peppermint tea, sold in bags or as loose tea leaves.
- Soft Drinks
Drinks containing sugar tend to sooth a shaky stomach. Whenever there is a nauseated feeling opt for a soft drink rather than allopathic medicines.
- Control Breathing
While you’re lying down, place a cool washcloth on your forehead and focus on your breathing and have a control over it.
- Try Acupressure Trick
Place your left thumb on the inside of your right forearm, about two thumb-widths from the crease of your wrist. Press it for about 2 minutes then move your thumb a little closer to your wrist and press for another minute.
- Avoid Spicy or Fatty Foods
Opt for healthy carbs. If possible nibble on foods that are high in carbohydrates. Avoid foods that contain fat that may worsen the situation. A blander diet made up of foods such as rice, crackers or baked potatoes may relieve nausea.
- Don’t move
Lie still and refrain from moving frequently because constant movement disturbs the balance mechanism in the middle ear, which leads to vomiting.
