Allergies are defined as “an abnormal adaptive immune response.” Which occur due to body’s responses to a substance that is usually harmless. If the immune system and inflammation within the body are balanced, the reaction to the allergen will not be vigorous and will be normal. However, when these allergens are exaggerated they lead to the next more alleviated allergic reaction.
Here is a list of essential oils that may help in battling against the allergies that rise out of variant allergens.
- Peppermint oil
Diffuse 4 to 6 drops of peppermint essential oil to unclog sinuses and calm soreness in throat. This will soothe the nasal cavity and will aid the body in clear out mucus and allergen. Add peppermint oil to a glass of water, tea or coffee. Or apply it to the areas that are affected and involved. For people with sensitive skin, dilute peppermint with coconut or jojoba oil.
- Basil oil
Basil oil is very effective in fighting against inflammation and it also regulates the immune system when it reacts with allergens. All you need to do is consume one drop of basil oil by adding it to soup, salad dressing or any other dish. Or dilute few drops of basil oil with equal part or coconut oil and apply it to the chest, and temples.
- Eucalyptus oil
To treat respiratory allergies that are caused due to various external factors, diffuse five to six drops of eucalyptus and apply it to chest and temples. Adding Eucalyptus oil to the vaporizer and take stem for at least 15 minutes to get relief from congestion and to clear nasal passage.
- Lemon oil
This essential oil extracted from the lemon is used as a great disinfectant to your home. It will unsheathe bacteria and pollutants, keeping the air clean in your surroundings. This can be especially helpful as the seasons’ change and allergens from outside are being brought into your house through various means. Add lemon oil to laundry detergent, mix a couple of drops with water and spray it on the furniture and recliners.
- Tea tree oil
Apply tea tree oil on skin rashes and as a household cleaner. While using tea tree oil topically, dab a cotton ball into the oil and gently apply to the area of concern.
